GAME CHANGING SPORTS FACILITIES ON THE WAY IN GIPPSLAND

The Allan Labor Government is delivering more modern, accessible community sport facilities across Victoria.
Member for Eastern Victoria Tom McIntosh announced clubs across the Wellington Shire will share in more than $18.3 million for 78 new projects through the latest round of the Local Sports Infrastructure Fund.
In the Wellington Shire, the following clubs will receive:
- $500,000 for Boisdale Recreation Reserve Multipurpose Courts Redevelopment which will include the redevelopment of the netball court with 100 Lux LED lighting and 2 new additional multi-purpose pickleball courts line marked for netball warm up and social basketball.
- $250,000 for Maffra Lawn Tennis Club LED Lighting Upgrade which will install 350 Lux LED lighting to 6 synthetic tennis courts.
This round of the Fund will support projects worth more than $64.8 million across Victoria, adding to the more than $2.4 billion dollars invested in sport and recreation infrastructure since 2014.
The 2025/26 Victorian Budget is investing $20 million to continue delivering high-quality, accessible community sport infrastructure through programs like the Local Sports Infrastructure Fund.
These investments are helping more Victorians get active while supporting local jobs, economies and healthier communities.
New data from Sport and Recreation Victoria shows more than 330 funded projects over two years have increased participation by almost 43 per cent – bringing more than 70,200 new participants into sport, including a 19 per cent increase in girls.
The projects have also supported more than 1,170 direct full-time jobs, delivering over $538 million worth of community sport and active recreation infrastructure.

“Congratulations to Boisdale Recreation Reserve and Maffra Tennis Club - this boost will go a long way to support the growing number of people in Gippsland keen to get involved in local sport and recreation.”
“Not matter the sport, we’re making it more accessible for regional Victorians”
Quote attributable to Boisdale Recreation Reserve Committee of Management Secretary Judy Traill
“The announcement made last week has had an incredible effect on our very small community. The upgrades will encourage greater participation and will also give us the opportunity to encourage and engage the local community to try new recreational activities such as pickle ball.
The support of the Wellington Shire Council has been instrumental in the development of our submission and recognition must be given to Natasha French, Senior Community Facilities Projects Officer, WSC. Her drive and commitment to the project has been invaluable. The Boisdale Briagolong Football Netball Club are to be congratulated for their huge commitment to this redevelopment of a very old, degraded facility. Mr. Ray Adams, BBFNC, has persisted for many years to achieve the best possible outcome for the refurbishment of our one court. The Boisdale Briagolong Netball Club has 7 teams competing and the two half courts will give the teams a great warm up/training area. The Boisdale community support for this project has also been overwhelming.
Thank you to everyone who has been involved in this very worthwhile project.”
